‘Scammer’ gained $1.3m

A GOLD Coast mother accused of playing a role in a $30 million cold calling scam will no longer be required to report to police while on bail.

During an applicatio­n to vary the bail of Tamika Ruth Simpson in the Southport Magistrate­s Court yesterday, it was revealed the mother-oftwo children is alleged to have personally gained $1.3 million from a boiler room scam allegedly operated on the Coast.

Defence lawyer Campbell MacCallum said Simpson worked as a personal assistant and earned $55 per hour during the time she was allegedly involved in with the company in question. “Her involvemen­t is, at its best, minimal,” he said.
