AXE-WIELDING AQUAMAN HITS A BIRTHDAY BULLSEYE

- SUZANNE SIMONOT

JASON Momoa hit the bullseye on the weekend when friends and family threw him a surprise birthday party.

The Aquaman star, who turns 38 today, was bowled over on Saturday night when friends and family organised an axe-throwing party for him at new venue Lumber Punks, at Miami.

Lumber Punks co-owner Sam Hay said the group booked out the venue, opened earlier this month, for the surprise celebration for Momoa, born Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa in Hawaii on August 1, 1979.

“Axe throwing is something Jason does to wind down. It’s popular in the US and Canada,” Hay said.

He said Frontier star Momoa was a charismatic character.

“He was very proficient with an axe — quite impressive. He was in his element,” he said.

“He hit a few bullseyes. Everyone did really well. They were all getting right into it and having fun.”

Hay said Momoa was joined by about 40 to 50 family, friends and Aquaman castmates and crew.

“He was very surprised. They had an elaborate scheme to get him down here,” he said.

Momoa sent social media crazy last year when a video emerged of him hitting a bullseye with a tomahawk while sipping a beer.

Hay said guests underwent a safety briefing before attempting to bury hatchets, tomahawks and axes into bullseye targets to clock up points for a winning score.

Party guests included Aquaman producer Peter Safran and his wife Natalie Safran, who posted a video of herself wielding an axe and landing a bullseye on Instagram.

Momoa also posted a picture on Instagram yesterday of himself with former world surfing champion Mark Occhilupo at Billabong headquarters at Burleigh.
