Cheers greet Premier at town hall meeting

The Spit was met with cheers and applause at a town hall meeting with Premier Annatascia Palaszczuk last night.
The Premier explained her decision about the controversial development in her opening remarks at the Currumbin RSL forum.
“That area is iconic,” Ms Palaszczuk said. “It’s not just iconic to the Gold Coast, it’s not just iconic to Queensland, it’s iconic to the world.”
Ms Palaszczuk said the decision to stop the development was made at cabinet on Monday.
The Premier said the state government had briefed the Gold Coast City Council on the masterplan.
Save Our Broadwater spokeswoman Judy Spence (pictured) said the Premier had made “dreams come true” but wanted to know how it could be assured the decision could not be reversed. Ms Palaszczuk said the master plan would be designed to protect the area. Doug Jennings Park, Main Beach – midday: Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad and State Development Minister Anthony Lynham announced the planned integrated resort development on The Spit will not go ahead.
Former council chambers, Southport – 1pm: Treasurer Curtis Pitt opened an international student hub to help new arrivals find friends and settle into their education.
Lahrs Rd, Ormeau – 2.45pm: Treasurer Curtis Pitt toured manufacturing company PWR Performance Products who supply Formula 1, NASCAR and World Rally Championship.
Currumbin RSL, Currumbin – 6.30pm: Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and cabinet ministers answered questions from the public at a town hall meeting.
