Copley’s challenge against The Jet

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

GOLD Coast coach Neil Henry concedes centre Dale Copley has a “challenge” on his hands to contain former Titan James Roberts on Saturday night.

Since moving up the highway to the Broncos last year, Roberts has scored four tries in three southeast Queensland derby games including a hattrick in Round 7 this season.

The speedy 24-year-old terrorised Copley that night with 10 tackle busts, two line breaks, a try assist and the winning four-pointer to break the hearts of Titans fans and players.

“He got the better of us last time,” Henry said.

“He’s quick, he bounces back on the inside of the line and he’s a handful. He’s been in good form.

“He’ll have a spring in his step too settling his future there so he’s someone we have to contain and work together to contain.”

Copley was last week partnered in the centres by Jarryd Hayne but this time it will be John Olive, marking big Brisbane back Tautau Moga.

Henry has put faith in longterm five-eighth Kane Elgey by naming him in the No.6 ahead of Tyrone Roberts, who is relegated to the bench with Hayne back at fullback.

Kevin Proctor is likely to return from a hamstring niggle in a major boost to the Titans.

Meanwhile, promising utility Karl Lawton will miss the rest of the season after booking in for surgery on his troublesome shoulder.

“He’s signed here for the next few years so he needs to get a pre-season in,” Henry said.
