Strike action delayed

-

GOLD Coast City Council plumbers have been warned they are not permitted to strike under industrial relations laws.

A memo from the council’s acting CEO Joe McCabe shows the Plumbers and Gasfitters Employees’ Union of Queensland did not correctly apply to strike.

“This will mean that members of that union will not be permitted to commence action until we receive a complaint notification,” the memo reads.

The memo also warns only financial members of unions are able to strike and line leaders would be asking employees if they would be taking part in any industrial action.

Outdoor workers warned last week they would enforce work bans, including failing to clean public toilets, after pay negotiations broke down.

Other work bans are also anticipated. Mr McCabe told the Bulletin no industrial action was taking place.
