Lake may be drained
EVANDALE Lake may be drained after the failure of attempts to find a potentially deadly stonefish in the popular Bundall waterhole.
A Gold Coast City Council spokesman said it would be 48 hours before a decision would be made about draining the lake.
The prediction comes after a member of the public captured video footage of a highly venomous stonefish in the lake last month.
The lake has been closed since the fish was spotted.
The search has been hampered by water up to 7m deep and a large amount of algae at the bottom of the lake.
It is believed the stonefish has been in the lake for about 10 years after entering through drainage pipes as a larvae.
It would not be the first time the lake was drained.
About 20 years ago the council drained the lake after reports a bullshark was present. No sharks were found when the lake was drained.
