Maloney’s back and now ready to stir rival

- CHRISTIAN NICOLUSSI

JAMES Maloney has overcome a broken hand and is ready to break Brisbane hearts.

The Cronulla five-eighth tested out his busted left hand at training yesterday and declared he’d be ‘’good to go’’ at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.

The premiers will have no shortage of motivation to beat the Broncos in their own backyard with Paul Gallen to play his 300th NRL game.

A second successive loss could also mean the Sharks tumble down the ladder to as low as seventh, depending on other results.

The return of playmaker Maloney is a huge boost, with the No. 6 revealing he played on for almost half an hour against South Sydney three weeks ago with a bone in the middle of his hand shattered.

“Once (John Sutton) scored that second try, I knew I had done something to my hand and I couldn’t grip,’’ he said.

‘’Once I had the ultrasound they said she was busted.

“Since the op I had a week where I couldn’t do anything because there was the risk of infection (to the wound) if I sweat.

“Once the wound healed, I could do some running, and then I did my first bit of contact out there. I did a few tackles and it was all good.’’

Maloney said Gallen had done well to reach 300.

“It’s been a tough 300, especially the type of footy he plays in the middle,’’ he said.

“He’s played plenty of big games at Suncorp, and he’s always enjoyed the hatred from Queensland. The biggest thing for us is to get the win for him. We did it for Heigno’s 300th and Lewy’s 300th.”
