DRESSING UP AND DOWN FOR RACES

- EMILY SELLECK emily.selleck@news.com.au

THOUSANDS turned out to the City of Gold Coast Cup Raceday on Saturday with many of the women going for flats instead of high heels.

Among them was 20-yearold Ashleigh Griffiths: “I feel like this event was a bit more relaxed, there were more pastel colours than the bright colours that you usually see at the big race days.

“I wore a tan body suit with a skirt and fascinator.”

She said the Gold Coast’s winter weather made for the perfect day.

“It was a really good day of family fun,” she said.

“There was free entry, pony rides for the kids ... it was just a really good vibe and great atmosphere. Plus great weather, even though it’s meant to be winter.”

Gold Coast Turf Club CEO Steve Lines said the event attracted about 4500 people.

“It’s been going for a few years and everybody loves it, especially the kids,” he said.

“We had jumping castles, face painting and horse rides. All the things the kids enjoy.”
