Sara Connor splits with boyfriend in Bali prison
BYRON Bay mother Sara Connor has split from her boyfriend David Taylor inside Bali’s Kerobokan Prison where both are serving sentences over the death of a policeman.
Prison sources said the pair barely speak to each other since their sentencing, after previously being photographed behind bars kissing and cuddling.
News of the split comes as Connor recently saw her two sons for the first time since her arrest almost a year ago. The boys, aged 9 and 11, spent a week visiting her daily in jail with their father, Connor’s exhusband Anthony Connor.
Guards said the first reunion was emotional.
“When they first met they were hysterical, all of them crying ... after that Sara was very happy,” an official said.
Businesswoman Connor, 46, and British DJ Taylor, 34, were both convicted of group violence causing death over the bashing of police officer Wayan Sudarsa on a Kuta beach on August 17 last year.
Connor was jailed for four years, increased to five years on prosecution appeal.
Taylor, who was convicted of the major role in the brutal killing, was sentenced to six years. Taylor told the court he killed the officer, who he accused of stealing Connor’s handbag, in self-defence as they fought on the beach.
During their trials, Connor and Taylor were frequently seen kissing inside the jail and arrived at court handcuffed together. But their relationship cooled after the verdict.
Connor believes she was sentenced harshly for a crime in which she was not involved, having told the court she tried to stop the fight.
But the court heard that the officer may have survived had the couple called for help rather than leave him to die.
“She split with David after the verdict,” one jail source said yesterday. “They never meet, even at the visiting area when they have their respective visitors, they stand in different places. They don’t talk to each other.”
Connor keeps busy in jail, knitting and teaching inmates how to make clothes.
