Brock comparison for Supercars star
MARK Skaife last night compared Jamie Whincup with Peter Brock after the Red Bull Holden Racing Team driver confirmed his legend status by becoming the driver with the most wins in Supercars history.
Already the championship record-holder with six titles, Whincup yesterday overtook Craig Lowndes to break the winning record when he powered home to claim his 106th race at Sydney Motorsport Park. Skaife, a five-time cham- pion and six-time Bathurst winner, welcomed Whincup to the legends club.
“It was another great drive and big moment for Whincup,’’ Skaife said.
“A four-time Bathurst winner and six-time champion he is now the all-time winner as well.
“There are not enough superlatives to describe what he has done in this sport.’’
Skaife even gave Whincup the ultimate compliment for a Supercars driver.
“He is very Brock-like when he leads,’’ Skaife said.
“He is very hard to beat.’’ Whincup is also in line to extend his championship record after a stellar weekend of Sydney racing in which he managed to cut Scott McLaughlin’s championship lead to just 12 points.
