Buckley’s chance to prove his worth
A CALL on Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley will not be made until after Saturday’s MCG clash with Melbourne.
The Magpies board will meet at the club’s Holden Centre headquarters late this afternoon where footy boss Geoff Walsh will present the findings of his long-awaited review into the football department.
Walsh will not make a recommendation on Buckley’s future but instead provide Eddie McGuire and the club’s six other directors with an analysis of Collingwood’s operations.
It is expected the board will take time to digest the Walsh report before deciding on a course of action.
One option would see Buckley, 45, continue as coach with a significantly revamped assistant coaching team.
Recruiting, fitness, medical and list management operations will also come under scrutiny.
Assistant coach Brenton Sanderson is contracted for next year but midfield coach Scott Burns, backline coach Robert Harvey and list manager Derek Hine are among those facing uncertain futures.
An external review into the club’s entire operations is yet to be completed.
