- ALEXANDRIA UTTING

A GOLD Coast teen accused of escaping police custody in central Queensland before driving away handcuffed in stolen a car was found 880km away at Nerang on Tuesday.

Jett Pincham-Brown, 17, was picked up in Emerald after the Southport District Court issued a warrant for his arrest for failing to turn up at court.

On August 15, officers arrested him on the warrant after catching him running out the back door of a property being raided in the town.

When police were taking him from the Emerald Magistrates Court to the police station later that day, PinchamBrown allegedly made a run for it. Police said the handcuffed fugitive got into a nearby Nissan Navara which was parked with the keys in the ignition and drove off.

Police tried to stop the teen but ended the pursuit when they allegedly saw him driving dangerously. The car was found about two hours later at Springsure, 70km from Emerald.

Pincham-Brown was found at a Saxon Crt unit in Nerang on Tuesday. He was no longer wearing handcuffs.

He was charged with escaping lawful custody, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and stealing. He was also charged with stealing and receiving tainted property after he allegedly stole a set of license plates from a car parked in Nerang St, Southport. He appeared in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody until September 13.
