Beaten Roos still improve

CANADA outscored Australia seven tries to two but the Wallaroos still finished a place better at the women’s rugby World Cup than in 2013.

It was a lopsided final outing as the Wallaroos fell 43-12 in Belfast, in the fifth place playoff. Their sixth place finish at the tournament won by New Zealand was an improvement on their seventh at the last event.

“Tonight’s loss isn’t the way we wanted to finish our World Cup campaign,” said retiring head coach Paul Verrell.
