GOLD Coast and Tweed frequent flyers are fed up with these Tweed Greenies continued protesting about the installation of the much needed ILS at Coolangatta Airport to make landings safe in wild stormy weather.

Surely aircraft passengers safety is more important than a bit of subsoil contamination that will be caused by excavation to lay the concrete foundation pad that the ILS tower will be erected upon? KEN WADE, TWEED HEADS WEST

WHY wasn’t that so-called “fight of the century” on Sunday called for what it was – a total rip-off?

Silly statements about how brave the loser was. Please, he could not fight but received $100 million for pretending he could.

Thank goodness McGregor was not really hurt and was carried for most of the so-called fight. ROD WATSON, SURFERS PARADISE

EXCELLENT article last week by Ryan Keen on the increasing dangers on the waterways.

But how dare Hal Morris ignore good sound advice from the marine industry’s highly respected Stuart Ballantyne.

If placing some navigation markers and a speed limit sign will save a life, it is surely worth it.

If the Waterways Authority cannot do something simple like this, there is no point in them being there, as authority also brings responsibility. Their charter is “to manage the development and use of the waterways so they remain clean, safe and accessible now and into the future.”

What is it they don’t understand about the word “safe”? STUART BRUCE

I ADMIRE the work Trevor Long and Sea World do in the research and preservation of sea animals.

Their income that enables them to perform these tasks comes from our tourism. Without tourism they don’t exist.

For this reason Trevor Long needs to pull his head in when it comes to his constant calls for the removal of shark nets. The impact this would have on tourism and the coast generally would be fatal.

I have no doubt there is data to support his argument. But the safety of humans perceived or otherwise must take precedence. PETE LEIS

RE TITANS, as your paper has noted, Keebra Park High is a premier rugby league nursery as is Palm Beach Currumbin High.

Why don’t we harness all of our local players first (a lot go to other clubs)? That way we would have a lot of supporters with interest through relatives and friends.

May take a year or two to build a culture and results but I am sure it would have much more benefits then having one highly paid socalled “elite” player. FOUNDATION MEMBER RUSS PETERS

FAIR go. How do you expect our Test team to be able to do battle with Bangladesh on the meagre pay they get? GERALD MOSES, CLEAR ISLAND WATERS
