PIRATE DAY

- MAKENZIE NEWTON

Year 6

St Francis Xavier

SHIVER me timbers! You could be forgiven for not recognising the St Francis Xavier Prep students when the normally cute and innocent littlies were transformed into a bunch of scallywags for their annual Pirate Day.

The day started with a visit from Captain Jellybeans who entertained them with a show before taking them on a quest to find the hidden loot.

Following that, the swashbuckling crew had all hands on deck doing pirate arts and craft with their Year 5 buccaneer buddies.

As it’s been in previous years, the day was a huge success.

“For over 15 years, Pirate Day has been an annual event for the Preps,” said Prep Green teacher, Mrs Giovanna Harvey, aka Captain Harveyhead of the Black Moustache.

“The event is not only for their fun and entertainment, but it also ties in with the HASS curriculum about mapping.”

Prep Green student Rosie Phelan said: “My favourite thing about Pirate Day is getting dressed up as a pirate.

“We also watched a show with Captain Jellybeans. We went on a treasure hunt and found the chest which had lots of necklaces and jelly beans.”

It sure was a pirate’s life for them and a day they will never forget.
