THE Department of Industry, Innovation and Science Eureka Prize for Science Journalism was awarded to the two part documentar­y Becoming Superhuman.

The documentar­y details how biomedical engineer Dr Jordan Nguyen created cutting-edge technology to enable 13-year-old Riley Saban, who has cerebral palsy, to do things he had previously been unable to do, such as switch on a light, operate a TV and even drive a car.

DR Madhu Bhaskaran, an RMIT University Associate Professor, won the Macquarie University Eureka Prize for Outstandin­g Early Career Researcher. Her work is leading to the developmen­t of unbreakabl­e wearable electronic devices such as electronic skin patches that can warn when the wearer has been exposed to too much sun or patches that can detect dangerous gases in mines.
