Turbo-charging future

-

BATHURST is set to get a taste of the future with Supercars to unleash the brand new V6 engine on Mount Panorama in a history-making demonstration next month.

Set to join the series next year to start the revolution that may kill V8s, a twin turbo V6 engine will cut laps on Australia’s famous racetrack in a prequel to this year’s Bathurst 1000, beginning October 5.

Supercars has given Triple Eight Race Engineering the green light to unleash an engine the factory Holden team has been developing in what will prove the ultimate test. Strapped into the Red Bull Holden Racing “Sandman’’ Commodore, the V6 engine will be pushed to its limit with the prototype to scale the 577 foot mountain before reaching speeds in excess of 300km/h on Conrod Straight.

Driver Greg Murphy will cut four laps in the car on every day of the event.

“It will be exciting for the fans to get to see and hear the first V6 twin-turbo prototype at our holy grail of Mount Panorama,’’ said Supercars CEO James Warburton.
