Hinterland glamping proposal

- ANDREW POTTS

A HIGH-end “glamping” site near one of the Gold Coast’s most picturesque locations is set to rise in the Hinterland.

Developer Michael Freeman has filed an application to open a nature-based tourism and function facility in the Numinbah Valley near Natural Bridge.

The 300sqm function centre would host around 100 people and have space for overnight camping next door.

It will host weddings, birthdays, conference and team building exercises and will accommodate “glamping”.

City planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell said “glamping” was a growth industry on the Gold Coast which added value to nature-based tourism.

“Numinbah Valley is one of the most beautiful places on the Gold Coast and as a tourism city it is important we diversify our offerings.

“High-end glamping is becoming a global trend and this is something we can get into.

“Council will undertake a thorough assessment and ensure that local residents’ views will be taken into account.”
