Charges over siege
A MAN has been charged after a 10-hour siege which caused the heart of Surfers Paradise to be put into lockdown on Friday night.
Swarms of police blocked The Esplanade between Laycock and Clifford Sts after the 32-year-old allegedly started throwing items off a balcony, threatening to harm himself and yelling at police to shoot him.
He allegedly caused serious damage to the apartment including blood smeared on the floor and items destroyed. The siege started at 6pm and was resolved just after 5am.
The man has been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm, serious assault, common nuisance, fail to appear in accordance of undertaking and two counts of wilful damage. He will appear at Southport Magistrates Court today.
