Eureka! It’s a sky gem
FORTUNE has fallen from the sky for a Queenslander who usually pursues profits underground.
The gold prospector is in line for a $100,000 payout after finding what’s thought to be the world’s largest dendritic trolite-irons meteorite, one of only six on Earth.
The rare 15.3kg meteorite was discovered in 2015 at a station 20km south of Georgetown in far north Queensland.
It will be bought and publicly displayed, with the costs split by the federal government and Queensland Museum.
