TWO in five Australians surveyed in a new poll believe heaven and hell await them in the afterlife and angels and demons roam the world.

And just over a third of the 1026 people quizzed believe ghosts can bend the wills of the living, aliens have visited Earth, and the Genesis story of creation is a true account of the first man and woman.

However, more than twothirds of Australians do not believe global warming is a hoax perpetrated by scientists, and 70 per cent do not believe vaccines can cause autism, according to the Essential poll.
