Tweed reaffirms support for same-sex marriage
TWEED Shire Council has reaffirmed it will support marriage equality after councillors voted on the issue for a second time this month.
The motion to fly the rainbow flag and support the ‘yes’ vote was put forward by Mayor Katie Milne during last Thursday’s meeting but three councillors opposed to the idea put in a “rescission motion” to get councillors to rethink the decision.
The rescission motion lost two to four at yesterday’s extraordinary meeting called by the Mayor. Councillor Pryce Allsop did not vote as he was not able to attend the meeting.
Council will erects a rainbow flag or banner outside the Tweed and Murwillumbah Council chambers for the duration of the postal survey and promotes council’s position of support through forums such as media and social media.
