POPULAR NINJA TO BECOME A MOVIE

-

A QUEENSLAND-created smart phone game is on the path to becoming a Hollywood movie.

Fruit Ninja, created by Brisbane gaming company Halfbrick Studios, has been downloaded more than a billion times around the world and boasts of being the second-most downloaded mobile game of all time.

Founder and chief executive Shainiel Deo can reveal that a film script is in the works, with Fruit Ninja looking to follow in the footsteps of some other unlikely movie franchises.

“We also have a cartoon series of Fruit Ninja that we have released on YouTube Red, and we have a guy in LA that’s looking to develop more of our games into those formats,” he said.

Angry Birds also began life as a mobile game.

The 2016 flick raked in more than $443 million at the box office, and now has a sequel in the works.

This month The Emoji Movie hit cinemas.

The film has already grossed $235 million worldwide.
