Ian’s grandparen­ts would be so honoured

Ian Woodroffe has waited more than 70 years to sleep at his grandparen­ts’ block – and it’s taken an incredible circumstan­ce to make it happen. The 72-yearold from Brisbane stayed at Southport’s flash new Woodroffe Hotel after triggering a chain of events that has seen him and two siblings feted at the official launch of the seven-storey developmen­t. Having named the hotel after nearby Woodroffe Park, developer Kyronn discovered it had unintentio­nally honoured one of the city’s pioneers on the very block of land he called home for more than three decades.

How cops cracked grisly Coast murder

Late one night in December 2013, Shaun Barker, 33, met a group of men at the 7-Eleven service station on Sunshine Boulevard at Broadbeach. He was coaxed into a car and was never seen alive again. The murder had remained a mystery for almost four years. Now a handful of hard-nosed coppers working from a tiny office in Burleigh Heads have cracked the case. Many of the details of the investigat­ion have been suppressed – until now.

Rooftop bar coming to Runaway Bay

Northern Gold Coasters are in for a treat when the company behind some of the Gold Coast’s most popular restaurant­s opens a new venue at Runaway Bay. The multilevel restaurant, which will also feature a rooftop bar, is called Gotham Grill and Rooftop Bar and is slated to open early next year on Bayview Street next to Caffene Break.
