Accused teen has no bail joy

-

A 19-YEAR-OLD woman who allegedly went on a joy ride in a stolen luxury car with two teenagers has been refused bail.

Desiree Paul appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The court heard she had been living at a church in Surfers Paradise prior to allegedly being the passenger of a stolen Mercedes Benz that was tracked by police helicopter from Coomera to Southport at the weekend.

Duty lawyer Callan Brown told the court Paul should be allowed bail on the basis the offences were not very serious given she was alleged to be the passenger in the vehicle, not the driver.

However, Magistrate John Costanzo disagreed.

“Ordinarily I might agree but where she is a person being driven by an unlicensed juvenile in a Mercedes Benz. A juvenile driving a Mercedes Benz ... that somewhat weakens the argument,” he said.

Paul was remanded in custody until her next appearance on October 10.
