Major Molendinar site up for auction
A LARGE vacant Molendinar industrial holding – which once hosted major Queensland smallgoods manufacturer Newland Food Company – is set to go under the hammer later this month.
The 8 Production Ave property was acquired by Primo Smallgoods when it bought Newland in 2013. The following year Primo was bought by Brazilian conglomerate JBS, established as a slaughtering business in 1953 by rancher Jose Batista Sobrinho.
It is the world’s biggest beef producer with abattoirs worldwide. The property has become surplus to requirements after the former Newland operation moved to Wacol, Brisbane in 2013.
The 7629sq m site hosts a mix of ageing buildings.
Marketing agent Josh Wright, of Cushman & Wakefield, said the offering was a significant holding.
“The facility which once had over 80 employees on-site is being sold as a vacant possession, providing an opportunity for the purchaser to refurbish the existing buildings, or knock down the old buildings and redevelop the site,” he said.
Another advantage of the property was it offered easy access to the Smith St Motorway and had no known easements.
“This is one of the most exciting industrial sales in the central Gold Coast market for some time,” Mr Wright said.
“It will be interesting to see if it is purchased by a developer for a freestanding or multi-tenanted holding, or by an end user who can gain benefits from existing buildings.”
An auction is scheduled for October 18, on-site at 2pm.
