GYMNASTS BOUND FOR GLORY

- TAYELA PETTERWOOD

RISING Southport gymnastics stars took on the best in the region at the Gold Coast Junior Regional Championships.

Competing as the Southport Gymnastics Club for the first time, with some great support from their coaches, allowed for a successful day.

Coach Nadia Linnane said none of the girls knew they were such strong chances to win at the championships. “This is the first time our club has had so many placings,” she said.

“We are all so proud of them.” She said the girls were initially nervous and excited because of the competition they faced.

“They always try their best and that’s all anyone can ask for,” Ms Linnane said.

Gymnast Chenoa Wilson was feeling nervous but trusted in all her training.

“I was definitely nervous, but we trained for 16 hours leading up to it,” Chenoa said. “My favourite part is the floor as I finally get to show off my routine.”

The girls are back training hard for the junior state and national competitions.

“I’m hoping we go well, we just have to keep training really hard,” Chenoa said.

The girls – Chenoa Wilson, Holly Crews, Skye Colliver, Kate Petersen, Rebecca Webb, Jessica Cleverly and Emma DeFazio – will represent in levels three to six in ages ranging from nine to 13.
