SCHOOL TO REMEMBER REBECCA

-

ST Hilda’s School will host a luncheon today in memory of distinguished sports journalist Rebecca Wilson, who passed away last year.

The former St Hilda’s student (right) was 54 when she lost her battle with breast cancer last October.

School principal Dr Julie Wilson Reynolds said she would award the Rebecca Wilson Alumni Award to a St Hilda’s student. “Rebecca Wilson was a trailblazer in sports journalism in a context that was heavily male dominated. She was not frightened to speak the truth and did this with flair and wit,” she said. “Rebecca exemplified a life of purpose and showed girls that anything is possible with quiet determination and courage.” The alumni award will provide a student with the chance to complete an internship at the CourierMail, the Sunday Mail or The Australian.

News Corp’s executive chairman Michael Miller and Peter Gleeson will be guest speakers along with editor-inchief of The Australian Paul Whittaker and former political adviser Peta Credlin.
