Cliff crash kills glider

A PARAGLIDER has died after crashing into a cliff face in Newcastle.

The 62-year-old man lost control while flying yesterday afternoon and hit a cliff at Shepherds Hill.

Bystanders rushed to his aid, pulling him on to the cliff and performing CPR before emergency services arrived, but he died at the scene, police said.

The man was an experienced pilot and his family were nearby when he crashed.

“It’s tragic,” Newcastle police Chief Inspector Gerard Lawson said. “A man has lost his life doing something he loved.”
