Scotland’s boozy trio booted from team

-

THREE members of Scotland’s rugby league squad – one appropriately named Johnny Walker – were yesterday kicked out of the World Cup for being too drunk.

Captain Danny Brough, Sam Brooks and Walker were turfed after the boozy bunch were barred by security from boarding a Qantas flight in New Zealand because of their intoxication.

The trio were due to fly from Christchurch to Cairns to prepare for this weekend’s must-win match against Samoa after an opening fortnight that would drive anyone to drink. It began with a 50-4 demolition by Tonga last week, then the Scots were flogged 74-6 by New Zealand.

Adding insult to scoreboard injury, the side also had its anthem Flower Of Scotland cut back to just one verse before both games. It was all too much for Walker, Brough and Brooks, who at least found some kind of form when they hit the town in Christchurch on Saturday night.

The matter was immediately referred to the NRL integrity unit with the Scotland Rugby League then dumping all three from the rest of the World Cup.

Scotland Rugby League issued a statement last night claiming the three players had been “released from their 2017 Rugby League World Cup squad for misconduct”.

“We expect everyone involved in Scotland Rugby League to adhere to the highest standards of behaviour,” Scotland Rugby League chairman, Keith Hogg said.

“We fully support the code of conduct that is in place.”
