DEPENDING on who you speak to the estimated cost of building the proposed M2 varies from $500 million to $2.4 billion.

If I was seeking a quote for a similar job and got such a wide variation in price then alarm bells would be ringing loudly.

The recent upgrade for a second railway track from Coomera to Helensvale cost more than $150 million, most of which was spent on a single track bridge over the Coomera River.

The proposed M2 will require an eight-lane bridge which will cost a good deal more than $150 million.

So how can the proposed M2 covering 36.5km including many smaller bridges be built for $500 million? Seems to me the estimate of $2.4 billion is nearer the mark.

Oh, and that’s not including the costly resumption of many homes.

WITH One Nation making lots of noise in Queensland on the campaign trail, it might be time for LNP Leader Tim Nicholls to “get into bed” with Pauline Hanson to hopefully guarantee Labor is ousted.

Anything to get rid of the Palaszczuk mob, whose litany of failures is all that we’ll remember.

PEOPLE are the main cause of traffic problems on the M1, not the number of lanes.

Accidents and slowing down unnecessarily causes the most problems. The same applies in the US, to where 10 lanes both ways still have problems.

As for the Commonwealth Games advice on the best travel times would go a long way to help and people such as Jeff Kennett should get their facts right before making ridiculous statements.

ROD WATSON

HAVING lived and worked overseas with permanent residential address on GC, I think the positive impact of the Commonwealth Games is wildly overestimated.

What it might show is our enormous propensity for nanny state governance, carefree fun being legislated out of existence (along with our larrikin nature), overbearing PC, partisan politics, major highway gridlocks and an unbelievable cost of living.

On the plus side great weather, excellent beaches and Hinterland (some of which we still can’t access long after Cyclone Debbie).

Sad to say, but we might leave a bad impression on visitors (never encountered ID scanners at clubs anywhere in the world) and that truly is a travesty which should be laid at the feet of our government.

No longer the “lucky country”, more appropriate to say that title is dying a death of a thousand cuts!

BARRY C, CARRARA

AS FAR as our government goes, money is more important than human lives.

One of the biggest causes of fatal crashes is driver inattention but they have huge advertising signs on main roads and even the M1, which obviously takes the drivers’ eyes and attention off the road. But, hey, someone’s making money off these signs, so I guess that’s OK, right? Wrong!
