Wrong lane for driver

-

A GOLD Coast man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after a traffic incident in North Brisbane yesterday.

It is alleged the man drove a vehicle at high speed along Gympie Rd at 5.30am and proceeded through the Airport Link Tunnel on the wrong side of the road.

Police allege the man drove south along the northbound lanes of the Gateway Motorway Bridge and stopped at the top of the bridge where he produced a knife to police.

It is further alleged the man exited his vehicle without the knife and attempted to run across multiple lanes of traffic on the bridge when he was taken into custody by police and arrested.

The man was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for treatment.

A 52-year-old Hope Island man is charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected, drive under the influence of liquor or drug and possession of a knife in a public place.

The man will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 13.
