No boost to festival cash
THE Gold Coast City Council voted not to provide an additional $30,000 in funding to the city’s first major event after the Commonwealth Games.
The council yesterday voted to provide $70,000 in funding to the Gold Coast Film Festival, which is just two days after next year’s Games.
Helensvale councillor William Owen-Jones urged councillors to spend an additional $30,000 to help support the event.
But Robina councillor Hermann Vorster branded the proposal a “gratuitous spending spree”.
Mayor Tom Tate said he would be open to approving the additional funding once it was determined where it would come from.
