Fire stops work on Star building site

DOZENS of workers at the Star Casino’s constructi­on site were evacuated after a fire broke out in pipework just after 2pm yesterday.

Two constructi­on workers were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

Three fire crews took about half an hour to extinguish the “small blaze” at the site on the corner of Hooker Blvd and the Gold Coast Highway.

A Star Casino Gold Coast spokeswoma­n described the event as minor.

“A small fire was detected in pipework and led to precaution­ary measures being taken,” she said.

“No damage was caused and we commend the profession­alism of everyone on-site. We also thank the fire brigade for responding so quickly.”

It is not clear what caused of the fire.
