INTERSTATE SCHOOLIES ALREADY HAVE A GAME PLAN

- ALEXANDRIA UTTING

THESE guys had only been on the Gold Coast for a few hours yesterday but already their mission was clear: “Gettin’ chicks and gettin’ lit”.

Damian Russo, Joel Clohesy and Matthew Gilberto are among the first of the 18year-old schoolies to hit the Gold Coast from the southern states after the first week of partying by 17-year-old Queensland graduates.

These lads, from Shepparton in Victoria, chose to hit the Glitter Strip for their endof-high-school celebrations because our city has “the best night life” in the country.

“We’re here to get lit,” Mr Russo said, with a case of booze on one shoulder.

“The Gold Coast has the best clubs, the best girls and it’s the best place to be.”

When asked about his less than masculine choice of beverage – pre-mixed berry flavoured UDL cans – Mr Russo said they were a choice driven by necessity.

“It’s the easiest thing to get down at this time of the morning,” he said.

“We got them because we just want to get pissed quick.”

Meanwhile, the girls had another thing on their mind – getting tanned.

Harriet Stanley, Emily Batteglene, Cassie Thaller and Chloe Dickson, all from Melbourne, were soaking up some rays on Surfers Paradise beach.

Despite sunny skies at the weekend, rain is expected to dampen the festivities.

Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Britton said light rain was expected to hit the coast today and increase towards the weekend.

Queensland Police said 66 schoolies were arrested in the first week and for the most part school leavers were well behaved but for a group of boys who caused extensive damage to every wall of the penthouse in Mantra Sun City Resort.

Police have not yet charged any of the teens over the wild night.
