Guy duo absolutely on track to Guineas

- TOM BOSWELL @TomBoswellGCB

TRAINING partners Bryan and Daniel Guy are plotting separate paths for Luna Missile and Absolutly-positivly in the hope of saving their grand final meeting for the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

The Gold Coast father and son suspected the pair had above average talent and were proved right when both won Class 2 races over 1200m at Aquis Park on Saturday.

The Guys know both horses have the talent to be competitive in the $2 million 3YO Guineas (1400m) on January 13. Now they must get the prizemoney to secure their spot in the 16-horse field.

As a guide, the final runner last year had won $92,000 to qualify for the race.

“We just discovered they can take the step,” Bryan Guy said after the horses’ wins on Saturday.

“We are going towards the 3YO Guineas but they need a lot more prizemoney so we have to find the right races for them and hope we can get away with one of them.”

Both horses have won about $20,000 to date

Guy said he was yet to set a plan in stone for their journey to the Guineas but suggested they would target races at Doomben in a bid to win their way into the race.

Guy is determined they don’t meet in the lead-up in order to stop one cutting into the potential prizemoney of the other.

“We really don’t want to put Luna and Absolutly-positivly against each other if we can get away from it,” he said.

“We have just got to see if I can separate them.”

Luna Missile ($2.60 favourite) went to the front early on Saturday and kicked home to secure a soft win by 1.3 lengths in a time of 1:09.06 while filly Absolutly-positivly ($7.50) showed improved maturity to settle behind the leaders before winning in 1:09.25.

“Luna’s run was terrific,” Guy said of the horse backed from $5 to $2.75 with UBET.

“He come across, travelled well and Jackson (Morris) rode him very well.

“Absolutly-positivly used to go too hard and from day one we have been teaching her to settle. We have done our job.

“She had a good blow after the race, I think she will improve.”
