Daring to Drive Manal al–Sharif Craig Smith Simon & Schuster ★★★★★

DARING to Drive is a gripping yet heartbreaking autobiography about a courageous Saudi woman who grew up to be an unexpected leader of a movement to support women’s rights.

The book tells the story of her life as she endures cruelty, unfairness and lack of support.

Manal grew up in a society where 10year-old boys have more control over their mothers, and are able to drive cars while their mothers cannot.

She tells the tale of her life from her birth until the time she was imprisoned for getting into the driver’s seat of a car.

This book is extremely motivational and I believe it would be ideal for readers aged 11 and above. The thing that made Daring to Drive spellbinding is how different her world is to ours.

As she progresses throughout her life we understand that she, like all Saudi women, just didn’t know that the world could be so different.

She did not that elsewhere women could drive, get their own licences, attend crucial meetings, find a husband and even be called by their own names.

Altogether, if you think your life is hard, then I definitely recommend you read this.

It will change the way you see your world and appreciate the things you take for granted in daily life.

This is an unforgettable book.
