THE force is strong with Star Wars fans as they prepare for the release of the year’s most anticipated film

Star Wars, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi hits cinemas Wednesday night at midnight when local audiences will be among the first in the world to see the newest instalment in the saga of the Skywalker family.

Among those most excited is young fan Nevada Newman, a self-confessed fan of strong female characters.

The 10-year-old cosplayer from Pimpama this week got in some lightsaber practice on Currumbin rocks dressed as Rey, re-enacting moments from the The Last Jedi’s trailer.

In those moments, Rey (Daisey Ridley) is seen swinging the iconic blue lightsaber which once belonged to the ageing Jedi master Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) who she was seen meeting in the final moments of 2015’s The Force Awakens. In this year’s film, Rey meets with Skywalker on the remote island planet he has exiled himself to so she can learn the ways of the force.

Several Coast cinemas will have midnight screenings, including Harbour Town, Pacific Fair, Robina Town Centre and Australia Fair.
