Readers reacted to news a bureaucratic bungle meant that on the day light rail stage two offically connected to the heavy rail, track maintenance would mean commuters would be put on buses.

Desleigh Bycroft There should be NO trackwork done unless it is an emergency when it’s December or Easter or school holidays etc. They did this last year on the busiest Christmas shopping weekend and there was huge outrage and condemnation ... obviously havent learnt a thing ... but then the people that make these stupid decisions have a govt car supplied or never use public transport so couldnt care less ... it doesn’t affect them.

Leanne Dahms: I’m only going on it to Helensvale to say I was there on the opening day like Stage 1. I’ll find somewhere for breakfast and come home to Southport. Having the heavy rail closed isn’t an issue. Barbara Mathieson: Light rail at Helensvale wouldn’t cope tomorrow if QR was running. Robert Tribe: I had a free ticket for White Christmas at Movieworld booked several weeks ago only to find out that I couldn’t go because the trains were down. Yes I know buses were replacing trains but that would have been a nightmare. Christine McDonald: I call total BS that it’s been planned for a year to do the rail works. Well done Qld government Grant Reynolds: Honestly you can’t tell me this wasn’t planned to effectively create a “soft launch” for them.
