TIME TO DO HOMEWORK

- VISIT SEEK.COM.AU/ COMPANIES

BEFORE jobseekers dive into applying for their next job in the new year, they are urged to research the companies and jobs they are interested in.

SEEK Australia and New Zealand chief commercial officer Kendra Banks says securing a new job in the new year is a priority for many workers.

“February and March are the busiest jobseeking months of the year on SEEK,” she says.

“We recommend they do some homework first to ensure the companies and jobs they’re applying for are the right fit for them.

“Our latest SEEK research has uncovered 51 per cent of people in the workforce believe the company they work for doesn’t align with their initial impressions.

“This includes role description (54 per cent), working environment (51 per cent), bonuses, salary and performance reviews (45 per cent), and company culture (42 per cent).”

Its research finds a modern environment and facilities, contemporary technology, and a people-first culture are the top three workplace benefits workers seek.

“Our SEEK research also uncovered that 74 per cent of people in the Australian workforce feel that their job has a big impact on their overall quality of life.

“A similar proportion (71 per cent) believe their job has an impact on the emotional state of those closest to them,” Banks says.

“This highlights the importance of people being in the right job as it affects not only themselves but the people around them too.”

To help jobseekers find a company and job that is a better match for them, SEEK’s Company Reviews website connects jobseekers with feedback from current and past employees about companies they have worked for.

“SEEK Company Reviews is a place where people in the Australian workforce can find and share trusted information,” Banks says.
