SAND AND STUMPS MAKE DAY SPECIAL

- HANNAH SBEGHEN

PRAWNS, paws, sand and cricket were all key ingredients for Gold Coasters celebrating Christmas the best way they know how.

Among those celebrating on the Gold Coast were families like the O’Flynns, who hit off their Christmas Day with a game of cricket.

Matt O’Flynn said cricket had become the family’s favourite sport.

“The kids absolutely love it and could play it all day, in fact they have been playing for three hours straight,” the father-of-three said.

“It doesn’t matter where we are for Christmas, the family all seems to get together and play.”

After a salty dip at Broadbeach and a cold lunch of prawns the family reassembled at the pitch. “It’s wonderful relaxing and having a few cold ones, it’s the best way to do Christmas.”

For Brisbane mum Yolanda Perez, her daughter Alexdra Saez and their five month old Shih tzu, spending the day with their feet buried in the sand at Broadbeach was the cherry on top of their Christmas Day. “It was well worth the drive,” Ms Perez said.
