King tide floods roads

-

GOLD Coast roads have flash flooded after a king tide came through the area.

Parts of Land’s End, Budds Beach and Labrador went underwater yesterday as the unusually high tide came through just after 9am.

Roads off the Esplanade at Budds Beach were under at least 50cm of water at its deepest points, causing lengthy delays to traffic. Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Aditi Sharan said the king tide reached heights up to 1.9m and would reach 1.22m tonight.

“It’s due to the gravitational pull of the moon, it causes low and high tides,” she said.
