Rafael Nadal leads wave of support for ‘hurting’ Murray
FELLOW recovering champion Rafael Nadal has led messages of support for Andy Murray after the former world No.1 cast doubts over his future following his Brisbane International withdrawal.
Three-time grand slam tournament winner Murray posted an emotional social media post on Tuesday night revealing how much he was “really hurting inside” after pulling out of the Australian Open warm-up event with a hip injury.
The world No.16 said he would remain in Australia and decide his next move by the weekend but serious concerns have been raised about the Scot’s playing future after his latest injury setback.
Despite battling knee dramas ahead of the Australian Open, world No.1 Nadal was quick to support Murray as wellwishers responded to the Scot’s heartfelt post.
“Andy, we miss you and we hope to see you back soon! ‘Get well my friend’!” Nadal posted on Instagram.
Nadal and fellow “Big Four” members Murray and Novak Djokovic (elbow) are all racing the clock to be fit for the year’s opening grand slam event.
Top-ranked Nadal withdrew from the Brisbane event before the draw was made.
Murray has not played a competitive match since the Wimbledon quarter-finals in July. He is mulling over whether to contest the Sydney International or play an exhibition event in Melbourne before the Australian Open starting on January 15.
