SEAHAWKS CLAIM SILVER IN STATE JUNIOR TITLES
THE North Gold Coast Seahawks have clinched a silver medal in the top girls’ division at the Under-16 State Basketball Championships.
The Seahawks fought hard yesterday afternoon in the gold medal playoff at the Carrara Indoor Sports Centre but ultimately went down 66-57 to the Townsville Flames.
Nonetheless, three players managed doubledigit hauls for the Seahawks with Jessica Boundy accumulating a tournament personal best 16 points.
She was well supported by Charlotte Boyd (12) and Grace Hermansson (10).
In the boys’ Division 1, the Gold Coast Waves finished on a high by smashing the Logan Thunder 69-44.
Lloyd Mcveigh was the star of the show, bagging 33 points on his own.
Elsewhere, the Gold Coast Breakers lost their final girls’ Division 2 match to the Sunshine Coast Rip 56-33 and the Gold Coast Tide fell 65-59 to the Hervey Bay Hurricanes in boys’ Division 3.
Judah Radic was largely the Tide’s undoing, scoring 23 points for the Hurricanes to cap an outstanding tournament in which he averaged more than 21 points a game.
