RIGHT PATH TO MAKE GETTING AROUND EASY

- PETER BEATTIE CHAIRMAN, GOLD COAST 2018 COMMONWEALTH GAMES CORPORATION

APRIL is going to see the biggest event in Queensland’s history and a unique opportunity for the Gold Coast to promote itself to the world.

For everyone at GOLDOC and our Games Delivery Partners, the coming 77 days are going to be some of the busiest but most rewarding days of our lives.

As I have said previously, no one said it would be easy planning and delivering a world event on a scale Queensland has never seen before.

Planning covers over 40 planning functions including major considerations around facilities, security, transport, the volunteer program, employment and procurement.

This city has already seen many benefits from GC2018 planning and infrastructure.

I have been so impressed how well the government agencies, City of Gold Coast and many other stakeholders have worked with GOLDOC.

Take last Monday’s launch of the Get Set for the Games advertising campaign, for example.

The cross-agency strategy for the campaign encourages all of us to make simple adjustments to our normal travel routines during GC2018 and there’s no better time than now for us all to take a fresh look at the myriad of travel options during the Games.

Again, as with all major events, early planning and flexibility will be the keys to keeping ourselves and the Gold Coast moving.

These Games are a unique opportunity and we must do all we can to get the most out of them.

It is no different for our athletes who have been planning and preparing for years to be a winner or achieve their personal best in April.

GOLDOC has always promised that a huge part of the planning for the past seven years has been to get everyone from the athletes to the officials to the spectators where they need to go in good time.

We put the first Transport Operational Plan out for public consultation in August 2014 and, with our partners since then, continued to refine it based on your feedback.

We want to make sure everyone in the city has a great Games and smooth and well-planned travel will be a big part of that.

You’ll see on these pages, details of some upcoming Get Set travel workshops and how to get further information in order to achieve a stressfree Commonwealth Games experience.

Please take the time to look into how you can help make this major international event a great success.
