SALLY BOWLS OVER FANS
Surfing superstar Sally Fitzgibbons gave kids one last glorious Gold Coast day of school holiday fun at Kurrawa yesterday. Meeting fans and competing in an acai bowl making competition, Fitzgibbons revealed her ambitions to become the world surfing champion by the end of the year.
SALLY Fitzgibbons has revealed her ambitions to become the female world surfing champion this year.
Yesterday Ms Fitzgibbons spoke about the challenges that lay ahead for her this year at an acai bowl breakfast challenge at Kurrawa Beach, where she met her fans officially for the first time in 2018.
Although she bowed out to ironman Matt Bevilacqua when it came to creating the best Amazonia acai bowl, she said she was excited to begin surfing competitively once more.
The surfing icon from Gerroa on the NSW south coast said she had been taking to the waves just for fun over the holidays and it helped to motivate her in the lead-up to this year’s World Surf League season.
“It comes with bumps and bruises bringing in new tricks,” she said of her pre-season.
“It’s about the one per cent increments and improvements.
“I’d love to win the world title and there’s definitely some duels I know I’d like to win, especially the new ones.”
Ms Fitzgibbons said it was always a race to be the first to win on the new waves.
She said she was looking forward to surfing at Jeffreys Bay in South Africa because it hadn’t been on the women’s tour for more than 10 years, while surfing at Indonesia would be a highlight as well.
The Roxy Pro Gold Coast is the first event of the new season and kicks off at Snapper Rocks on March 11.
