NEWS of growing support for a dive site here on the Gold Coast is welcome as the city prepares to look beyond April’s Commonwealth Games.

Tourism is our biggest industry and it is essential that we renew and refresh our offerings to visitors, both international and domestic.

It was a shame to miss out on HMAS Tobruk in 2016 but we must now focus on securing HMAS Darwin as our next major attraction.

What the Gold Coast must have is a united front from our leaders in politics, tourism, and related industries.

With the prospect of an extra $6.1 million flowing into our economy annually within three years of sinking, it is clear why there is such support to make this a reality.

The Gold Coast must continue to offer new attractions and experiences rather than simply rest upon our laurels.

Stagnation and freezing our city in the amber of an idealised memory of the past is not an option.
