PRINCE IN THE RHYTHM TO MAKE HISTORY

-

RHYTHMIC gymnast Danielle Prince could make history if she’s selected for GC2018.

The 25-year-old from Brisbane is striving to become the first Australian female gymnast to compete at three Commonwealth Games.

She will first have to perform well at the Australia Cup competition on the Gold Coast on February 19, the final gymnastics selection event for GC2018.

With the experience of being a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, a seven-time World Championships representative and an Olympian, Prince is hoping to be a mentor for younger members of the team at this year’s Games.

“When I went to Delhi, I was the baby having just turned 18, which sounds a little bit old for gymnastics but it was one of my first major international competitions,” Prince said.

“To go through the Games with a couple of older athletes really helped me in the competition, the environment and the village.

“I would love to bring that to the team not just from a performance perspective but a team member aspect and, I guess, a leadership role.”

The GC2018 Rhythmic Gymnastics competition will be held at Coomera Indoor Sports Centre from 11-13 April.

There will be medal events for each apparatus – hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon - and for the best all-round individual and team.
