Girl, 5, hurt by voodoo

TWO sisters tied down and burned a five-year-old girl, permanently disfiguring her, in a voodoo ritual meant to rid her of a demon causing her to misbehave, police said.

The women also threatened to cut off the head of the girl’s eight-year-old brother with a machete, authorities said.

The women, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts in the US, pleaded not guilty on January 29 to mayhem, assault and other charges.

The sisters said during their rituals children can get burned as evil spirits leave their bodies.
