Hogan a shot for world title
WORLD welterweight champ Jeff Horn is backing his training partner Dennis Hogan to shock international boxing and claim another world title for Brisbane this year.
So important is Hogan’s April 7 bout with Cheshirebased Jimmy Kilrain Kelly at the Brisbane Convention Centre, trainer Glenn Rushton will stay in Brisbane while Horn travels to New York to face undefeated American Terence Crawford at Madison Square Garden on April 14.
Rushton also has his Commonwealth Games superheavyweight silver medallist Joe Goodall making his pro debut, while his Olympic and Commonwealth Games representative Cameron Hammond and former Australian champion Nathan Webber will also represent Horn’s Stretton Boxing Club.
Horn said Hogan had a terrific shot at winning a world title.
“Dennis is … super fit and determined,’’ Horn said.
“If he follows the plan Glenn sets for him, he’s a real chance to be another world champion from Brisbane.”
